DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
Bulletin No. 1 on Bulusan Volcano Eruption
Issued at 3PM, 06 June 2022
The Department of Agriculture particularly DA Regional Field Office 5 (DA RFO 5), in coordination with Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Sorsogon and Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs) of Casiguran, Irosin and Juban, is closely monitoring the situation. The Regional Dairy Production and Technology Center in Sorsogon City is initially designated as primary livestock evacuation center. Meanwhile, available resources are already prepositioned at DA RFO 5 Research Outreach Stations.
Secretary Dar emphasizes that the priority of the Department is to ensure the safety of farmers, fisherfolk, their families, and other ruralfolk, including their farm animals.
Thus, the Department advises farmers and fisherfolk to evacuate livestock animals to safer areas, harvest marketable crops and fish (for areas not heavily affected by the ashfall) and secure farm equipment and machineries. Moreover, everyone is recommended to stay indoors. If it is unavoidable to go outdoors, wear protective gear for the eyes, nose, mouth and skin such as goggles, face masks, pants, long-sleeves and the like.
The DA through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operations Center will continue to issue bulletins regarding the Bulusan Volcano Eruption. For inquiries, kindly call (02) 8929-0140.
