The Philippine Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers (PSABE) of the Philippine, Inc. Region IX Zamboanga Peninsula Chapter held its 1st Regional Forum in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on March 17 and 18, 2023 with the theme: โAgricultural and Biosystems Engineers: Catalyst of Agricultural Modernization in the Countryside.โ
The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office IX co-sponsored the forum in response to backing the call for agricultural modernization. Attended by some 80 PSABE members while 15 joined virtually, the forum aimed to strengthen the continuous professional advancement and competency of the PSABE members who are employed at DA9 and DA attached agencies, bureaus, LGUs and the academe.
During the plenary, PSABE National Trustee Crestituto Mangaoang talked on Championing ABE thru Values Transformation and Green Infrastructure and Green Economy. Engr. Janice Vargas, Chief of SRED-BAFE discussed the Role of ABEs in the Implementation of Various Regulatory Functions in Agri-Fishery Mechanization Law, while the National Vice President Jovita Agliam of PSABE, Inc. presented updates on LGU-ABE Strengthening Efforts. Ret. BGen. Alexis Tamondong, PSABE National Auditor represented the PSABE National Officialdom expressing its support the PSABE Zampen Chapter.
Likewise, election of officer followed and oath taking of newly elected officers was administered by National Vice President Jovita Agliam. Outgoing PSABE Zampen Chapter President Engr. Roger O. Bagaforo turned over the key of responsibility to the incoming President Engr. Christopher R. Abne. Other officers are: Vice President Engr. Erwin V. Kulayan; Secretary Engr. Brandon M. Mentolaroc; Treasurer Engr. Segundo T. Torres; Auditor Engr. Jerry B. Superales; Public Relations Officer Engr. Lolito L. Palomares. The five Board of Trustees were: Engr. Glenn C. Calunsag, Engr. Ramon M. Rodrigo, Jr., Engr. Peter Elvis L. Galleto, Engr. Jeward Dagodoc; and Engr. Ivy Santos.
The PSABE Zampen also recognized the past presidents for their invaluable contributions to the organization. The honorees were: 1st President Engr. Rolendio N. Palomar represented by his wife Cely Palomar and 3rd President Director Dennis Palabrica (Asean Engineer).
In addition, the search for Lakambining Inhinyera 2023 - Zampen Chapter was also awarded. Engr. Lorydel B. Maquiling from the Department of Agrarian Reform - Zamboanga Sibugay (DAR-ZSP) emerged as the winner and will compete at the Lakambining Inhinyera National Level.
The PSABE Forum was held in accordance to RA No. 10912 known as Continuous Professional Development Act of 2016, with objectives that are to enhance and upgrade professional qualifications aligned in the international competencies to respond to the modern day labor market needs and to ensure contribution of profession in uplifting the general welfare, economic growth and food security.
