This year, 450 thousand cacao seedlings are set to be distributed by the Department of Agriculture – Region IX. “P16 million has been allotted to the cacao planting materials and this would cover 900 thousand hectares for the entire region. This is only from the Department of Agriculture. Other agencies like the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - NGP have also set targets for the year. We will likely to have a blooming cacao industry here in the peninsula in the coming years,” said Ana S. Aying, High Value Crops Coordinator for Region IX.
Four lucky corn farmers in Zamboangadel Norte won Carabao with implements and Corn Sheller.
During the recently conducted graduation ceremony of the University On-the-Air (UOA), Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Director Constancio G. Alama raffled 3 carabaos with implements and 1 unit Corn Sheller held at ZN Cultural Center and Sports Complex. Ten farmer-graduates were also recipients of transistor radio.
MerlyEstera from Gulayon, Dipolog City; Faustino Patis and Jerry Samorano from Brgy.Tipan, Mutia were the winners of the 3 carabaos with implements. Likewise, Mr. Tomas Samorol from Brgy. San Isidro, Sergio Osmeña got the Corn Sheller.
Out of the 25 municipalities and 2 cities in ZamboangadelNorte, 17 enrolled in UOA. A total of 220 farmer-students graduated and four of which were fortunate winners of the said raffle.
Municipalities enrolled wereDapitan City, Mutia, La Libertad, Polanco, Sergio Osmeña, Piñan, Sibutad, Dipolog City, Jose Dalman, Manukan, Roxas, Katipunan, Siayan, Sindangan, Godod, Gutalac and Salug.
