The Department of Agriculture IX (DA9) turned over the Rice Processing Center (RPC) II worth 16 million pesos to Labangan Farmers First Consolidated Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LAFFICO MPC) in barangay Bulanit, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur recently.

One million pesos was awarded to the Municipality of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur as the 2016 National Rice Achiever for having an outstanding production in the region.

Three remote municipalities in the region were selected as recipients of the Department of Agriculture (DA-RFO9) Anniversary Outreach program held for three consecutive days this week. Together with DA Attached Bureaus and Agencies; (ATI, BFAR, BSWM, BAI, BAI-Vet Qua, BPI, BPI-NSQCS, PhilFIDA, NMIS, PRRI, PCC, PCIC, PFDA, PCA, PCA-ZRC, NFA, NIA and RAFC) extension support, services, food and planting materials were delivered on site to the municipalities of Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, and Sibutad, Zamboanga del Norte.

R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay - Easy and fast delivery of farm commodities is now enjoyed by farmers coming from Sitio Lugami to Barangay San Antonio since their 3.5 kilometer farm-to-market road is fully cemented early this year. Record shows that majority of the beneficiaries are Subanen.
“Seeing the concreted road makes me happy because this would mean improvement to the lives of the people here,” Department of Agriculture IX Regional Director Constancio G. Alama stated after having personally passed through the fully paved road together with Assistant Director Dennis H. Palabrica during its recent inauguration and turnover ceremonies.
Alama, is the regional project director for DA’s Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) in Zamboanga Peninsula that provides 90 percent of the P38 Million worth of infrastructure project in R.T. Lim.

A black bug is commonly present in rainfed and irrigated areas. It prefers continuously cropped irrigated rice areas and poorly drained fields. It sucks the sap of the rice plant causing bug burn damage. Damaged plants turn yellowish and dry up the plant in severe cases.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) 9 through its Regulatory Division and Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) and the Municipal Local Government Units of Molave, Tukuran, Labangan, Guipos and Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur. conducted an operation black bug control recently.
