The Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol personally turned over farm machineries, seeds, plus indemnity checks to the Salug Valley farmers affected by typhoon Vinta in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur held recently.

The municipalities affected are Dumingag, Mahayag, Molave, Tambulig and Ramon Magsaysay, also known as Salug Valley. Fifty-one farm machineries, 3,399 bags of rice seeds, 70 bags OPV white corn seeds, 154 cans of high value vegetable seeds, 35 bags of peanut (20 kilos per bag) are given to affected associations in the mentioned municipalities. The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) distributed 51 indemnity checks to the farmers with a total of P338,894.00.

Zamboanga City was last leg of the APSIRE roadshow to be conducted in Zamboanga Peninsula on Friday at LM Hotel. Over 80 local food producers attended the roadshow organized by the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) of the Department of Agriculture regional office IX.

In line with the celebration of National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) this November, the Department of Agriculture-IX conducted the 2017 Rice Fun Run in Dipolog City last Saturday. The event centers on the theme Ready SET Rice, SET is acronym for SAVE rice by eating the right amount need, EAT healthy by TRYing brown rice, and other food staples. The Run is made possible with the collaboration of the Dipolog City Local Government Unit and Office of the City Agriculturist. About 500 runners participated in this event which was held at the Sta. Cruz - Sunset area, Dipolog City Boulevard.

Some 115 farmers positively responded on the Information Caravan conducted by the Department of Agriculture (DA) through its Organic Agriculture Program (OAP) in the municipality of Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur last week.

The activity is in support to the Presidential Proclamation No. 1030 (since May 2015) declaring the month of November as Organic Agriculture Month. It aims to encourage farmers to go organic and participate in vermi-compost production as stepping stone.

With the purpose of finalizing the 1st Situationer for Region 9 which is very much needed not only by the Department of Agriculture, academe and students but the entire agricultural stakeholders for poultry and livestock as stated by ARD Melba B. Wee, the members of the Regional Livestock and Poultry Information Early Warning System (LPI-EWS) convened recently at the CT Boulevard Hotel, Zamboanga City, to address two important issues on LPI-EWS.

“Our regional agricultural achievers deserve this recognition, without them, we would never attain the expected yield and production in our agricultural commodities.” said Dr. Dennis H. Palabrica, Department of Agriculture IX (DA9) assistant director.

This year, the DA in its Regional Achievers Awarding Ceremony held at Mibang Hotel, Dipolog City recognized the unwavering support and contributions of the outstanding Local Government Units (LGU), Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs), and stakeholders in the region.

Ten months since the 3.64 kilometer farm-to-market road was fully concreted from barangays Casacon and Tilasan, the World Bank evaluates if the community within the area have truly benefited from it, especially the farmers.

Department of Agriculture IX Assistant Regional Director Dennis H. Palabrica stated as he officially opened the 3-day Monitoring and Evaluation activities dubbed as Rapid Appraisal on Emerging Benefits (RAEB) in Casacon and Tilasan, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay, early this month.
