Around 200 local high value crops farmers benefit from the outreach activity which provided free coffee seedlings, assorted vegetable seeds, information materials and lectures and insights from various resource speakers.
The Department of Agriculture IX (DA9) - High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) continue to carry out its mission of serving and providing for the farmers through its outreach programs held recently in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur and Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte.
“We are here to inform you (farmers) of the different programs of the Department of Agriculture, one of which is the HVCDP wherein we encourage the farmers to grow high value commercial crops like coffee, cacao, vegetables and fruit trees, and support them in cultivating and promoting these crops in the market,” said Analiza Quilo, representative, DA-RSO Dipolog City.
WORLD FOOD DAY 2018 CELEBRATION - The World Food Day (WFD) 2018 celebration of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO) and Department of Agriculture (DA) and the United Nations – Food and Agriculture Organization was held at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City on October 16.
Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Piñol together with FAO Representative to the Philippines Jose Luis Fernandez and World Food Program Zero Hunger Champ, Miss World 2013 Megan Young awarded the National Winners of the WFD Poster Making Contest.
Four hundred farmer students from the province of Zamboanga del Sur successfully graduated the School On-the-Air (SOA) for Palay Check System under the Rice Commodity Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA). The closing ceremony was held at Events and Amusement Center, Provincial Capitol, Pagadian City on October 10, 2018 with the theme “Check na Check. Aprobado Kita. Asenso Sigurado.”
“Let us bring back the time wherein our soil was fertile and productive, the crops grow easily and healthy, without applying fertilizer or any inorganic additives,” said Arnulfo Estrada, DA9- Agricultural Program Coordinator (APCo) for ZC during the Organic Agriculture Information Caravan held in Barangay Culianan, Zamboanga City during the Hermosa festival week.
Over a hundred local farmers from the six agricultural districts in the city; Ayala, Tumaga, Manicahan, Culianan, Curuan, and Vitali made their way to the host barangay of Culianan to participate in the activity.
“I pray that you (participants) will give importance to the lectures and insights from our speakers and that you will also help us through applying everything that will be shared in this caravan in your own farms,” pleaded Acting City Agriculturist Carmencita Sanchez among the potential organic farmers.
