“This road is built according to its standards. But if we leave this one unattended and not give importance, definitely this can be easily damaged.”

Department of Agriculture IX Director Constancio G. Alama, stressed in his message in last week’s inauguration and turnover of 6.96 kilometer concreted farm-to-market road connecting barangays Magsaysay, Villagracia down to Bagong Silang in Siay town, Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Some 13 Farmers Associations in the 2nd district of Zamboanga City receives their assistance from the Department of Agriculture – IX in the form of farm machinery and irrigation facility during the Mass Turnover ceremony held at the Culianan covered court on January 19, 2018.

Certificates of turnover for five (5) units Rice Threshers; three (3) units Hand Tractors; two (2) units Mud Boats; twenty-five (25) units Shallow Tube Wells; and concreting of 1,000 meters irrigation canal were received by the presidents of Bolong San Isidro Irrigation Association, Tindalo Farmers Association, Licopon-Bolong Irrigators Association, Km. 57 Buenavista Lower Irrigators Association, Inc., Camino Nuevo Farmers Association, Culianan Farmers Association, Bincul Farmers Association, Mercedes Farmers Association, Talabaan Farmers Association, Pook Farmers Association, Cabaluay Farmers Association, Guisao Farmers Association and Mangga-Bongiao Farmers Association.

Over 500 families affected by the recent typhoon Vinta were reached out by the Department of Agriculture (DA) alongside its attached agencies during its Agri-fishery Relief and Assistance Turnover on January 5 in Barangay Anungan, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” F. Piñol himself entrusted to Barangay Anungan the assorted reliefs and assistance prepared by DA Region 9, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 9 (BFAR-IX), the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

The Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol personally turned over farm machineries, seeds, plus indemnity checks to the Salug Valley farmers affected by typhoon Vinta in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur held recently.

The municipalities affected are Dumingag, Mahayag, Molave, Tambulig and Ramon Magsaysay, also known as Salug Valley. Fifty-one farm machineries, 3,399 bags of rice seeds, 70 bags OPV white corn seeds, 154 cans of high value vegetable seeds, 35 bags of peanut (20 kilos per bag) are given to affected associations in the mentioned municipalities. The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) distributed 51 indemnity checks to the farmers with a total of P338,894.00.

In line with the celebration of National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM) this November, the Department of Agriculture-IX conducted the 2017 Rice Fun Run in Dipolog City last Saturday. The event centers on the theme Ready SET Rice, SET is acronym for SAVE rice by eating the right amount need, EAT healthy by TRYing brown rice, and other food staples. The Run is made possible with the collaboration of the Dipolog City Local Government Unit and Office of the City Agriculturist. About 500 runners participated in this event which was held at the Sta. Cruz - Sunset area, Dipolog City Boulevard.
