The Department of Agriculture IX (DA9) turned over the Rice Processing Center (RPC) II worth 16 million pesos to Labangan Farmers First Consolidated Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LAFFICO MPC) in barangay Bulanit, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur recently.
In the presence of over 100 rice farmers and stakeholders witnessing the turnover ceremony, Labangan Municipal Mayor Eduardo Relacion expressed gratitude to the DA. “This is a great response to our increasing rice production in Labangan. The construction of RPC II will help our farmers increase their income, reduce postharvest losses and guarantee a good quality of rice product.” he said.
The RPC II is packaged with postharvest facilities for milling, drying and storage. It is equipped with three high technology mechanical dryers at six tons capacity per unit, and one unit multi-pass rice mill at 1. 2 tons capacity per hour; ready to provide quality rice for the municipalities and the whole region.
The turnover ceremony was graced by DA9 Assistant Regional Director Maria Melba B. Wee, LAFFICO MPC Chairwoman Lorna Abenes, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) Regional Director Charito Brilleta, National Food Authority (NFA) Provincial Manager Aragasi Pasandalan, and the LAFFICO officers.
