The Department of Agriculture (DA) in coordination with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) recently conducted a training on Plant Nursery Establishment and Different Propagation Techniques on Rubber, Cacao, and Coffee. Thirty-five participants who are Barangay Captains, Councilors, and Presidents of the Farmers Association of Zamboanga del Sur – District II gathered at ATI Training Center in Balintawak, Pagadian City.
“DA aims to fully equip our farmers in propagating quality planting materials of coffee, cacao and rubber in the region. To attain this, we continue to provide trainings for the farmers to enhance their skills in farming,” said Anna S. Aying, High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Focal Person.
DA and ATI are working hand-in-hand to achieve high quality planting materials. “The training’s objective is to make the farmers competitive in their nursery establishment. We choose the barangay and farmers association leaders so that we can have fast and strong information dissemination on the proper and effective way of budding and grafting,” said Manuel Dimalaluan, Project Development III of ATI Central Office.
Midred Nantes, Business Manager of Dinas Rubber Farmers Association said she was very thankful to DA through HVCDP. “They provided us opportunity to learn different techniques on budding and grafting. This is a big help to our association and even to our municipality because this will lead us to a higher income. We will re-echo this training to our members. DA has not only provided us with training but has also given us planting materials, vegetable seeds and polybags,” Nantes added as she gladly expressed his impression to the said event.
Participants of the training did a hands-on demonstration of budding and grafting in Ramona Farm, Bulatoc, Pagadian City on the second day. (J.Rodriguez/DA9)
