The Department of Agriculture IX (DA9) - High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) continue to carry out its mission of serving and providing for the farmers through its outreach programs held recently in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur and Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte.
“We are here to inform you (farmers) of the different programs of the Department of Agriculture, one of which is the HVCDP wherein we encourage the farmers to grow high value commercial crops like coffee, cacao, vegetables and fruit trees, and support them in cultivating and promoting these crops in the market,” said Analiza Quilo, representative, DA-RSO Dipolog City.
Resteff Klyff Micaros, DA-HVCDP representative, also expounded more of the banner program discussing the different high value crops, farm facilities and equipment and other services the farmers can avail and benefit from.
"With all of the things that I have learned in this program, I plan to apply them little by little in my farming. To grow the seeds that were given to us together with my fruit trees and cacao so that I can earn more and provide for my family better," shared Victor Villaver, one of the farmers during the outreach program in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
Lectures from DA IX’s Regional Soils Laboratory and Regional Crop Protection Center were also imparted to the farmers relating to them the procedures in soil sampling and analysis and the use of metarizhium anisopliae and trichogamma species as biological control agents to combat crop pest in crops.
Rizal Municipal Mayor Flora Marie Manigsaca alongside the Municipal Agriculturist and other representatives from the local government units in both municipalities also graced the event expressing their gratitude for the continued support of the Department to the local farmers and the agricultural sector in their areas.
