WORLD FOOD DAY 2018 CELEBRATION - The World Food Day (WFD) 2018 celebration of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO) and Department of Agriculture (DA) and the United Nations – Food and Agriculture Organization was held at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City on October 16.

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Piñol together with FAO Representative to the Philippines Jose Luis Fernandez and World Food Program Zero Hunger Champ, Miss World 2013 Megan Young awarded the National Winners of the WFD Poster Making Contest.

The poster entry of Naome Grace Obena from Pasonanca Elementary School, Zamboanga City was selected as one of Five Best Posters from 16 national entries. Obena represented Region IX – Zamboanga Peninsula, alongside other winners from Region 1 – Ilocos, Region 8 – Leyte, Region 12 – South Cotabato, and ARMM – Maguindanao.

Naome Grace Obena, 10, a Grade 5 GT student at the Pasonanca Elementary School received of ₱17,000.00 cash, a Trophy and a Certificate of Recognition from DA and FAO. At the regional level, Obena was also awarded with ₱3,000 cash as Regional Winner and a free trip to Manila together with Coach, Teacher Erwin Deloria.

Teacher Deloria expressed their appreciation to the DA and FAO for the award and recognition given to them. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, we are so happy that the Department of Agriculture conducts contests that uses art as a way to promote awareness and actions to support the food and agriculture programs in our nation. We are blessed to be here and we had the chance to guest on radio and TV, tour the United Nations headquarters and National Museum.” Deloria said.

Obena’s artwork will be featured in the DA Christmas Cards and is currently displayed at the UN-FAO headquarters in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.#

This year’s World Food Day theme, “Our Actions are our Future: A #ZeroHunger world is possible by 2030.” Zerohunger is the second Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of the World Food Programme of the United Nations.(CCadiz/DA9)
