Four hundred farmer students from the province of Zamboanga del Sur successfully graduated the School On-the-Air (SOA) for Palay Check System under the Rice Commodity Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA). The closing ceremony was held at Events and Amusement Center, Provincial Capitol, Pagadian City on October 10, 2018 with the theme “Check na Check. Aprobado Kita. Asenso Sigurado.”
Charles Arbas, the Pagadian City Farm Caster said “education for our farmers is made easy and convenient. Since most of our farmers are home at 6:00 in the evening and play the radio, the DA took the initiative to enroll our farmers in our SOA under the DA Rice Program which aired on radio station RMN DXPR 603 from Mondays to Fridays 6:00 – 7:00pm.”
Arbas said the farmers enrolled and took the exams under the course of Palay Check System for four (4) months. The program aims to teach and raise our rice farmers’ awareness in good agricultural practices and pest management to increase rice production and heed the call for rice self – sufficiency.
The ten (10) outstanding students who topped the course are 1. Sonia R. Bote, 2. Alicia J. Umpay, 3. Ponciana P. Plantig, 4. Victoria P. Perez, 5. Marietta D. Sandalan, 6. Jerusalem E. Pintac, 7.
