Some 13 Farmers Associations in the 2nd district of Zamboanga City receives their assistance from the Department of Agriculture – IX in the form of farm machinery and irrigation facility during the Mass Turnover ceremony held at the Culianan covered court on January 19, 2018.
Certificates of turnover for five (5) units Rice Threshers; three (3) units Hand Tractors; two (2) units Mud Boats; twenty-five (25) units Shallow Tube Wells; and concreting of 1,000 meters irrigation canal were received by the presidents of Bolong San Isidro Irrigation Association, Tindalo Farmers Association, Licopon-Bolong Irrigators Association, Km. 57 Buenavista Lower Irrigators Association, Inc., Camino Nuevo Farmers Association, Culianan Farmers Association, Bincul Farmers Association, Mercedes Farmers Association, Talabaan Farmers Association, Pook Farmers Association, Cabaluay Farmers Association, Guisao Farmers Association and Mangga-Bongiao Farmers Association.
Of the 25 shallow tube wells, 15 of which were from the commitment made by DA Secretary Emmanuel F. Pinol to the farmers while the 10 units were taken from the El Nino Intervention program. The rest of the farm machineries provided were under the regular programs of DA in support to its RICE program in the region.
According to ARD Maria Melba B. Wee once the farm equipment is turned over it now becomes the responsibility of the association to ensure the proper maintenance of these farm equipment and to make sure that all its members will have the opportunity to use it.
2ND District Congressman Jose Manuel M. Dalipe expressed his appreciation to DA, City Agriculturist and other concerned sectors for their unrelenting efforts toward addressing the needs of the farmers. Further he said that he will continue to support DA towards the integration of projects for funding that will help improve the livelihood and increase production of the farmers in the 2nd district of Zamboanga City.
Also present during the turnover ceremony were Disodado Palacat, City Agriculturist; Councilor Al-Jihan Edding, Committee Chair on Agriculture; Gilbert R. Alvarez, Culianan Barangay Captain; and Evelyn Academia, DA9 Regional RICE Coordinator. (Edward Non/DA9)
