With the purpose of finalizing the 1st Situationer for Region 9 which is very much needed not only by the Department of Agriculture, academe and students but the entire agricultural stakeholders for poultry and livestock as stated by ARD Melba B. Wee, the members of the Regional Livestock and Poultry Information Early Warning System (LPI-EWS) convened recently at the CT Boulevard Hotel, Zamboanga City, to address two important issues on LPI-EWS.
Present in the meeting were Dr. Oscar O. Parawan, Technical Consultant and representatives from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), OCVET-Zamboanga City, WMSU, NMIS, DA-Regulatory, Planning, DA-AMAD, DA-PMED, DA staff from Pagadian, and Livestock and Poultry Raisers Association of Zamboanga City.
ARD Melba Wee gave emphasis on the importance of data coming from the PSA and the conduct of the meeting gives opportunity to the group to discuss and deliberate on the content of the report before it is finalized. She also urged the group to provide support and assistance to PSA in the gathering of data because this becomes an important reference for researchers and agricultural stakeholders within the region.
In the overview of the program, Dr. Darwin Lloyd D. Sulay, Regional Livestock Program Coordinator, said the meeting is vital and the group is expected to accomplish the tasks of reviewing and critiquing the draft Situationer based on the presentation of PSA. He also presented the 2016 drafted Special Order that reconstitutes the Regional Inter-Agency Steering Committee and Core Team for the project regional LPI-EWS for review by the group and to determine if some of these members and coordinators are still representing their respective agency.
For the finalization of Region 9’s first Regional Livestock and Poultry Situationer, Evangeline Garcia of PSA-Zamboanga Sibugay presented to the group the Swine Situation Report (January – December 2016) of Zamboanga Peninsula for editing and critiquing before its final reproduction.
